union memberships and student id-cards ?

Post  Richard on Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:00 pm

Hi,

On our own Masters student web-site it says we don't have to be Nation-members but we do have to be Union members,

so has anyone paid directly to the 'Lundaekonomerna'-Union to receive membership ?

As I understand it, I need to pay them in order to get a student id-card.

Hi Richard,

I can't help you very much with this question as this is the first year that students at our department have not had to join a nation as well as the student union. Usually student id cards are distributed through the nations so I'm not sure how our student union will address this issue.

However I do know that the small yellow building in between EC1 and EC3 is where you can find some answers. That is our student union office. good luck Smile

e-mail them

That's a good advice.

You can also e-mail skattm@lundaekonomerna.se about this. This person is the one who knows all about fees.

Can you do us a favor once you get the answer? If you can, please post the answer you get from the union here on the forum. Maybe we can update the webpage with that information as well.

It looks like we have to be Nation members for now at least.

There is discussion in the University about making Nation membership optional, but that will not take effect until sometime next year, if it goes through. So for the time being at least we have to be Nation members.

It is not about the money for me, I have no issues with paying union fees - the unions do good work that directly benefits the students.
What I don't like is paying for other peoples parties and beer, I am paying the Nation fee just to get a student ID card.
